Variance
This type of analysis determines how volatile the market is at a given time period. From the graph above we can see that the market can be very volatile even when average rates are relatively stable. For the USD/CAD exchange rate, markets have been most volatile at the end of March 2020 and the most stable in early June 2019, since January 2017.
Regression
Here we take a look at regression between the USD/CAD rate, Canadian Inflation, Canadian Exports and Canadian Trade Balance for the US. Data from January 2017 shows that there is significant regression between the USD/CAD rate and Exports as expected, while there is no such relationship for Inflation and the Trade Balance.
